The Need for 
Speed

In the 1800s, shipbuilders

revolutionised maritime design with the creation of the clipper ship. These vessels featured the innovative Aberdeen Bow - a sharp, narrow keel designed to specifically to cut through the water more efficiently.

This Aberdeen redesign allowed the ships to achieve faster speeds, outpacing the older, broader barques that had previously dominated the seas.

Composite Hull Innovation

During the clipper ship era, Aberdeen became a hub of maritime innovation particularly with the development of composite hulls. These hulls combined wood and iron to create ships that were both strong a lightweight.
