Events
Throughout the Tall Ships Races - Aberdeen, 2025, we will be putting on a selection of events. The funds raised from these events will be used to support the Sea Cadets - Aberdeen.

Winds of Change Dinner
The Aberdeen Line 200 Committee supported Aberdeen City Council with a special celebratory dinner marking the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Aberdeen Line. The dinner was hosted by the Seven Incorporated Trades of Aberdeen in collaboration with the energy sector. The commemorative event highlighted the legacy of Aberdeen’s maritime history while drawing connections to its future in renewable energy. Talks were given on the History of Tall Ships and the Aberdeen Line, the History of Tea, and the importance of its commerce.

A keynote speech was delivered by Dan McGrail, CEO of Great British Energy (headquartered in Aberdeen), who highlighted the role the government-backed company would play in promoting the transition to more renewable energy, which is at the heart of Aberdeen’s future.
Historical Display
We held a historical display featuring a series of informative panels that depicted the rich timeline and history of the Aberdeen Line, from its founding in the early 19th century to its impact on global maritime trade.

These detailed exhibits provided a comprehensive look at the company’s rise to prominence, including its role in shaping Aberdeen’s maritime industry. Visitors also learned about Aberdeen’s broader contributions to international shipping, commerce, and shipbuilding, offering valuable insights into why the city has been a key player in global trade for centuries.

The display was ideal for anyone interested in uncovering the pivotal moments in Aberdeen’s storied maritime past.

Heritage and Tea Trails
Even though Tall Ships is over, you can still embark on two separate heritage trails and enjoy an immersive walk through Aberdeen’s past. The maritime history trail is crafted to celebrate the Tall Ships Races and the 200th anniversary of the Aberdeen Line. Set against the backdrop of Aberdeen’s historic port and the charming Footdee (Fittee) harbour, this trail takes you through 14 unique stops highlighting the stories of legendary Clipper ships, tales of the docks, and the vital role of the harbour community.
The Tea Trail dives deep into the complex legacy of how Scotland, and indeed Aberdeen, played a key role in bringing tea to the tea table. Both experiences combines rich storytelling with Aberdeen’s maritime legacy, making history come alive for all ages.
Deck Tea Party
We welcomed guests aboard the tall ship T.S. Royalist for a whistle stop history of tea - an event that proved to be a great success. Attendees had the opportunity to taste some of the world’s rarest teas, including varieties grown here in Scotland, while learning how Tea Clipper ships and Tall Ships like the T.S. Royalist played a vital role in satisfying the world’s growing thirst for this now ubiquitous drink.

The event offered a unique chance to engage with tea historians, local tea growers, and young seafarers, making for a memorable and insightful celebration of maritime heritage and tea culture.

Parade of Sail
Visitors gathered at Pocra Quay to view the stunning Parade of Sail, enjoying unparalleled 270° views of Aberdeen Harbour and the mouth of the River Dee. This prime viewing location placed guests right at the heart of the action as majestic ships made their way out of the harbour.

Refreshments were provided by the Sea Cadets, allowing everyone to relax and take in the spectacle in comfort.
Whether maritime enthusiasts or curious onlookers, attendees agreed it was the perfect vantage point to witness the grandeur of the ships as they set sail—an unforgettable highlight of the celebrations.
